From 31 July to 2 August 2026, the Algarve’s sophisticated resort town of Vilamoura will host the Portugal Invitational, a brand-new professional tournament on the PGA TOUR Champions calendar.
The PGA TOUR Champions has announced the launch of the Portugal Invitational, a landmark professional golf event set to debut the week of July 27, 2026, at The Els Club Vilamoura in the Algarve. This marks the first-ever PGA TOUR-sanctioned individual stroke play event in Portugal, featuring 78 players including World Golf Hall of Famers, PGA TOUR Champions, and Legends Tour members. With a $3 million prize fund, the tournament will be part of a series of major European summer events, taking place between the ISPS HANDA Senior Open and the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship.
The tournament will be hosted at the newly redesigned Els Club Vilamoura, a course design by Ernie Els with elite competition in mind. Having previously hosted the Portugal Masters for 15 years, Vilamoura is no stranger to world-class golf.
The Algarve, long regarded as Portugal’s premier golf destination, offers over 30 courses, stunning coastal landscapes, and year-round sunshine, making it the perfect stage for some of the game’s most legendary players.
This tournament highlights Portugal’s growing prominence in international golf and sports tourism. Supported by Arrow Global, Turismo de Portugal, and Turismo de Algarve, the tournament aims to boost Portugal’s reputation as a global golf hub. With extensive broadcast coverage and a scenic, challenging venue, Portugal Invitational is expected to become one of the top events on the PGA TOUR Champions schedule and a favorite among golf fans worldwide.
